FAQs
What's the difference between a nursing bra and a pumping bra?
A nursing bra is built for quick, one-handed access to feed a baby directly, usually via clips or drop-cups.
A pumping bra is built to hold pump flanges in place hands-free, which requires a different opening structure. Some bras (like ours) combine both, but many on the market only do one.
How many nursing bras do I actually need?
We'd recommend at least 3 in rotation: one to wear, one in the wash, and one as a spare so you're never caught without a clean option.
If you're pumping frequently, it's worth adding a dedicated hands-free pumping bra to that rotation as well.
How do I choose between high, medium, and light impact support?
Match the bra to the activity, not just your cup size.
High impact is built for running, jumping, or HIIT. Medium impact suits yoga, walking, strength training, or all-day comfort. Light impact is closer to a bralette — good for lounging or very low-intensity movement, not workouts with significant bounce.
Will a nursing bra work for high-impact workouts like running or HIIT?
Only if it's specifically rated High Impact. Nursing access alone (drop-cups, clips) doesn't guarantee running-level support — the two features are engineered separately, so check the impact rating on each product, not just the presence of nursing access.
How should a nursing sports bra fit differently than a regular sports bra?
It should fit snugly around the band for support, but the cup and access point need enough give to accommodate feeding, pumping, and the size fluctuations that come with milk supply changes throughout the day. A regular sports bra isn't built to flex for that.
When can I stop wearing a nursing-specific bra postpartum?
Whenever you stop nursing or pumping — there's no fixed timeline. Many customers keep wearing the same styles well after weaning simply because the fit and support hold up as a regular sports bra.
Are the straps adjustable?
It varies by style —
Chloe 4, Océane 2, Océane 4, all three Venice styles, Flow, Empower, Maeve, and Emily have adjustable straps; Chloe 3 does not.
Check the individual product page for strap details before ordering if adjustability matters to you.
What's the difference between Chloe 3 and Chloe 4?
Both are High Impact, medium-high coverage, racerback styles built for running and HIIT.
Chloe 4 adds flange-pump compatibility and adjustable straps; Chloe 3 is wearable-pump only with fixed straps. If you pump with a traditional flange pump, go with Chloe 4.
What's the difference between Océane 2 and Océane 4?
Both are Medium impact, medium coverage, everyday/light-cardio bras with adjustable straps.
The difference is pump compatibility: Océane 4 supports both wearable and flange pumps, while Océane 2 is wearable-only.
What's the difference between the Venice styles (1, 3, 5)?
All three are High impact, high coverage, adjustable-strap styles built for running and larger busts.
Venice 1 is wearable-pump only; Venice 3 and Venice 5 add flange-pump compatibility, with Venice 5 positioned specifically for high-impact training plus pumping.
Can I wear a nursing sports bra for swimming?
Our bras are made from fast-dry activewear fabric, so many customers do wear them for swimming.
Keep in mind they don't include UPF sun protection, so they're not a substitute for a swimsuit built for sun exposure.
Will a tight sports bra affect my milk supply or cause clogged ducts?
Sustained compression from an overly tight or unsupportive bra can be a contributing factor to clogged ducts for some nursing parents.
We'd recommend a soft, well-fitted style that accommodates the size changes that come with feeding and pumping throughout the day, rather than sizing down for a tighter hold.
If clogged ducts are a recurring issue, it's worth checking in with a lactation consultant alongside any fit changes.
